BIOTECH/MEDTECH CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT

Today, many societies put special emphasis on exploiting their ability to:

create innovative products
build high technology based industries
secure high content jobs

to secure the strategic development of their economies and increase the living standard of their population.

Major global metropolitan areas with an inherent tradition of entrepreneurial spirit, creativity among individuals, science institutions performing at an international level and efficient collaboration between public research and industry are capable of realizing such a vision.

As a modern tool to accomplish significant results in high technology areas, regions throughout the world are building clusters and cluster organizations to facilitate such a development.

Individual research projects (a large number from which to extract key trends and statistics) and the commercial attributes of each project
Commercialization attitudes and experience within the university organization(s)
How well mechanisms and routines for transfer of research projects into commercial settings are developed

Ventac Partners possesses extensive experience in the field of cluster innovation. In 2003-04, we designed and executed a top-down analysis of government, research and education and industry components involved in biomedical innovation in Hong Kong for the purpose of identifying strengths and challenges concerning creation of a biomedical industry cluster in the region.

As a follow-up, in 2008-09 we designed and executed a broad study encompassing 20 universities and research institutions in Hong Kong and Southern China, including reviewing 96 biomedical projects for their global commercial potential.
